The drugmaker Pfizer has asked the U. S. Food and Drug Administration to increase its price of Viagra to 50 per cent from $10.50 a pill in July and again in December.

In its announcement Thursday, Pfizer said it expects sales to fall in the first quarter in line with other similar drugs in the second quarter.

Pfizer shares were up 2.4 per cent at $30.83 on the BSE, down 5.1 per cent on Dec. 31, but fell only slightly to $15.55 in early trading.
